Question about bringing food into the Uk
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:42:25 AM »
I'm leaving thursday for Birmingham and I wanted to bring some lovely double stuffed oreos for my boyfriends mother and some grahame crackers so we could make S'mores. I didn't see any grahame crackers the last time I was there. Anyway when i was buying them my mom asked if Customs would let me bring them in and I wasn't sure. Are you allowed to bring food in? It's going to be in my checked bags if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Ash

You can bring in stuff like that that's packaged up. It's fresh items like fruit, vegetables, meat & cheese you can't bring in. But anything dry, packaged or in cans should be fine.

I'll second what Britwife has said -- I've never had a problem bringing food into the UK, including things like fresh bagels, homemade chocolate chip cookies, etc.  It's the bacteria-harbouring stuff like cheese, fresh fruit/veg and meats that they're concerned about.
