A&D ointment available in the UK?

i was wondering if anyone knew if it is, even if under a different name. i haven't asked the chemist yet (will do tomorrow as i'm quite sick myself today and am not going to the next town from us.) -

Calvin has terrible and painful diaper rash and this seems to be the only thing soothing it. (sudocreme does nothing, neither does the yellow cream thats like sudocreme) we have a steroidal creme the GP RX'd us last time he had it this bad, but that also is not seeming to help
(the bad rash is down to the fact he is cutting two molars at once )

any help is appreciated!!

I used to use A&D in the states but haven't ever seen it here. I get my family to send me Desitin which I find is much better than A&D.
Is it possible Calvin has thrush? I remember Jordan had it when he was about a year old. No cremes or ointments would work. And the rash was so bad it was like horrible sunburn all the way down his thighs. In the end he had to get a prescription.
Have you thought about calling NHS Direct? They are pretty good.

We use Bepanthen whenever Aillidh gets bad nappy rash.  Clears it right up.  You can get it in Boots or Superdrug.

But if the prescription stuff isn't helping, I'd venture it was thrush like Pebbles suggests.

IF it's thrush, getting him to eat yougart will help.  We didn't need to goto the dr for ours (thought it was diaper rash), but we fed him yougart twice a day and covered it in Vasallen (sp) over night.  But if it's as bad as you say, you might need a perscription.  The yougart is good for cutting teeth too, it's soft and doesn't require chewing.

nhs direct said it doesnt sound like thrush but they recommended i see the GP, so i'm gonna try to get in tomorrow AM. i let Calvin go sans diaper this afternoon in the kitchen for awhile (nice, nice linoleum floor, although he didnt pee once!), and the rash seemed to have calmed down a bit. he eats yogurt and loves it. (he'll eat plain yogurt or fomage? frais too) i wonder if i could put yogurt on it if it was thrush (i know women can if they have thrush to help ease it?) hmmm... (my tired mind!)

i guess we'll see tomorrow, for tonight, we used the steroid cream again... thanks ladies!
