Kids playing outside
« on: July 19, 2005, 07:19:02 PM »
Well, for the first time in a very long time I've heard kids playing outside on my road.  Here is my question, since I have not heard many kids, well, ever.  Is it not usual for kids to play outside anymore?  I remember growing up we played outside almost everyday, not just in the summer.  Also seeing as it's 19 July why are kids still in school?  I've seen them still in their uniforms around town.

Anyway, just curious, I used to love playing outside with my friends.  It's nice to hear all the kids screaming and having fun. (Really, I like it)

School is not yet finished up for the summer in most areas in England.  There is a much shorter summer break than in the US.

I lived in a small village that didn't have many kids, and therefore, didn't often see kids outside playing.

In the village where my son went to school, the kids played outside more.  Perhaps you don't have many kids in your area?

Since back here, we're outside a lot.  We specifically picked an area with lots of children.  Our yards are all open, so the kids run through the neighbor's to play together.  I really like that.

Depends some kids are out , some are not ..my daughter's classes finish this thurs. I live near a park so you get kids playing but most of the time unless they are over 16 they tend to go with an adult...which is good as there have been many hit and runs at the front of our house (my husband's office faces the street so sometimes he's had to go out and offer assistance to an elderly person or child hit by a car that's sped off >:()
It's also a double edge sword because no matter that there is a large park some kids are bored and they find it more amusing to destroy the payphone that across the street or spray paint on their way to the park . You can actually follow a path of graffitti on the adjacent street some bored punks did heading towards the park... ::)
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Ah, that is awful!  I lived on a deadend block so we never really worried about cars hitting us.  Plus they went a lot slower then they do here!  It's scary how fast people drive.

This is my sons' last week of school. Seems Summer is nearly over and they havent even gone on Summer Vacation yet!
When I was a kid we were always out on our bikes or at friends houses. Kids now-a-days seem to be more home-bodied. My eldest son Jordan would rather sit in front of his playstation than go outside anyday! I dont know how he is going to handle his Scotland trip this weekend.  ???

We're close to the North Circular so delivery drivers use it as an alternative road to get to the main road ..the road itself had two roundabouts which was a good traffic calming measure BUT council recently took the roundabout next to the park and removed all the road marking ??? so it's a clean unmarked road..I can't even just calmly cross the road anymore...Conservative council at work :P..."Are you think what we're thinking" ..my new motto for them : what the f**k were you thinking :P ::)

Yeah, I often say that as well with all the two way streets which have one lane!

I can't believe the kids are still in school!  How will I ship my kids off to my mom for the two months I was expecting.
