Spousal visa advice...
« on: July 19, 2005, 04:25:06 PM »
Hi,

I was planning on moving to London with my wife in November when we would both have saved a good lump sum to begin our new life. However, my wife was offered a fantastic new job through her placement agency that she had to take. She left last week!

Because she is already there, I probably have to get the spousal visa on my own now. I am unsure of what to do about the support/savings issue. She makes 45000 pounds a year but has no savings currently and I have only about $2000-3000 because of all of the moving expenses. Should I wait until I have say, $8000-9000 to make the application, or is her income likely enough to show adequate support for me when I arrive? I do not have a job offer currently in the UK although I am a professional making a comfortable living here in the US and have a reasonable expectation that I can find work there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I miss my wife!

in my opinion you should be fine.

i applied under my hubs and he makes a very similar amount.  i showed i was looking for work etc. (CV ready, a letter from former employer with how much i made in US)

Had a bank account with about 3K in it too.

i think you should be fine with that!

I agree with Amiloo - I think you'll be absolutely fine. Neither I nor my dh had any savings and weren't making very much at all. I think as long as they feel you can scrape by on what you've got, they're satisfied!  :D

thank you both very much

i thought that perhaps it wouldn't be a problem but i am applying (most likely) at the consulate by myself - we can't be sure if she's going to be able to make it back easily. because of this, i wanted there to be little doubt in the mind of the consular official that he should approve my visa.

any other advice either of you could give me?
