NHS Cover
« on: August 01, 2005, 10:07:27 AM »
As most of you know Andrea is arriving on the 6th Aug on her 1 years student visa.  I've just contacted my surgery to get her registered and they are saying that she is not covered under the NHS.  I assumed (maybe wrongly) that she covered due to her visa being in excess of 12 months.

Could somebody please advise me on the actual facts an if she is covered does anybody know of anywhere I can go on the net to print off some proof that she is covered by the NHS.

Hope this makes sense.

Steve

OK, I've done some digging and I've found this both on the Leeds Uni website and the DOH website.

http://www.leeds.ac.uk/lsmp/selfhelp/international/international.html

however this says "Hospital treatment" and not general day to day medical care (such as colds, contraception, etc)

I really could do with something that says "GP Services", otherwise I kind of know what the GP will say if all he sees is the words "Hospital Treatment".  I'll keep digging but if anybody else knows of a good link could they let me know.

Thanks for your help

Has the university's health centre been contacted?  Ours gives students letters if they wish to be treated at another surgery.

Here's something from the Department of Health about students and the NHS. Hope this helps:
