How far will a bottle of Pimms go?
« on: July 29, 2005, 12:41:09 PM »
We have several social engagements coming up in the next couple of weeks and I'm doing a bit of entertainment shopping (dh sold the car - we can afford to eat again! Yay!  ;) ) How far does a bottle of Pimms actually go (I've never bought it - only had it at other people's houses) - should I get a couple of bottles to last through, say, three get-togethers? It's mixed with lemonade, right?

we had it at a party...we were able to make 3 good size jugs (think 1 litre size) of pimms and lemonaid with strawberres, cukes, oranges and mint (and ice!)

Not far enough! :P

For one thing -- are there different sized bottles of Pimms or just the one?  (I don't know.)  When I make Pimms by the glass (haven't tried by the pitcher yet) -- it seems that a bottle makes about six to eight 16-oz tumbler size glasses (what I use).  I don't measure exactly though -- just by eyeballing it (3 to 1 ratio Pimms/fizzy lemonade), by guess & by gosh.  People usually rave about 'my' Pimms drinks -- don't know if that's because they're stronger (with alcohol) or just tasty or what?  We have fresh mint in our garden so I always muddle the mint a bit first with the ice & some of the liquid.  Then I toss in extras of whatever we have on hand -- which has variously included strawberries, slices of orange, lemon & lime, cucumber, I've even chucked in bits from leftover fruit salad before that had pineapple, grapes & melon in it!

hey CB - don't you mean a ration of 3 to 1 - Lemonade to Pimms?   ;D

I used 1/2 of the smaller bottle (yes, there are two sizes) for one large jub of Pimms & Lemonade...will do the same on Weds. with the remaining Pimms.  I will probably add mint, cuc, strawberries and whatever else I end up with fruit-wise.

Hee hee...yeah -- I think maybe I was just extra thirsty for Pimms? :)  Ratio 3/1 fizzy lemonade/Pimms is correct.  It's been too cold up here in Yorkshire the last 2 weeks though -- the Pimms (for me) is more a warm/hot weather cocktail.

Yup - that's the small bottle...I like using lots of Pimms so that bottle lasts me for two jugs!  But so worth it!   :)

Thanks, guys. The weather is poopy today (I had a bit of hope, but now it's raining) so I've gone from plan A - BBQ and pimms to Plan B - lasagne and red wine. But that's just for today. I still have hopes for a hot August. In fact just to prove how high those hopes are I might go to Sainsburys next week and get a bottle or two!!!  ;)

The bottle says 3-to-1, but that's a bit sweet for me. I tend to use far less lemonade than that. Just try tasting it ... a lot. ;)

Waitrose exclusively carries a Winter Pimms to mix with Ginger Ale.  Ooooooo...  yum!  I can't wait for Winter!

I think Pimms has become my replacement for Margaritas.  I told my husband that I wanted to try to make frozen Pimms & Lemonade... ;)

Is the Winter Pimms made by the Pimms people, or by Waitrose? That sounds great! And I do like the idea of the frozen Pimms, too! Gread idea!! :)
