Spousal Visa -- Supporting Documents Question

Hi all,

Does my UK fiance (soon to be husband) need to have a certified copy of his birth certificate (assuming there is such a thing) when we go to apply for my visa in NY or will his orriginal suffice?

For my spousal visa, we sent in the UK passport with no birth certificate for the sponsor.

My wife's understanding (and the wording on her UK birth certificate) is that the original is in the government register, and what the person gets says "Certified Copy" at the top.

My fiance doesnt have a passport and i needed his birth certificate. What he needs to do is go to the registry office in the city/town he was born and ask for a LONG copy of his birth certificate. This usually takes a few days and he can either pick it up there or have it mailed to him.

If they have a passport you don't need their birthcertificate if I remember correctly.
