hihi :)
« on: September 09, 2003, 06:01:17 AM »
[smiley=curtain.gif]

hello!

I've been sneaking around lately as a guest, but registered today and thought I might introduce myself :)

My name is Kristen.. I'm 28 and living in Portland, Or. My boyfriend George ..is actually a Greek, living in Aberdeen, Scotland. Altho moving in with friends in Surrey since he has just finished his Masters (Finance and Investment) to begin the great job hunt. I'm hoping the economy is better there then here in Oregon.  :-/

I stumbled across this site since the propects of me moving to the UK about tripled in the last couple weeks. He was denied a Visa to come here -- and needs one to even step foot on the ground.:( (boy, were we naive) We are taking it slow and feeling the situation out -- since it is a big step. But I've been researching the ins and outs of how to do it.. and what to expect. So far this site has been very helpful!  :)

...and I love hearing others stories and knowing I am not alone in what everyone around me thinks is borderline nuts.:P

Anyways, that's me. :) I tend to have a bad habit of lurking -- but I will work on that, and offer any information I can when I can. :)

-K

Hi Kristen!  Glad you decided to introduce yourself.  Lots of people lurk.  I myself was a lurker for a long time.  Almost sounds illicit doesn't  it?  ;D

Regardless,  sounds like you have an interesting story.  My old roomie was Greek-Canadian. Great guy.  Most seem to have that good zest for life.

Regardless..best wishes on any decision you make and I hope it goes well for you.

Look forward to seeing your posts!

Hiya Kristen, good to meet or should I say see you?! lol  Glad you posted.  But don't just worry about posting when you have information.  This site is also about sharing opinions, recipes, jokes.  Plan to have some fun here and make some new friends.  Its a great place to hang out.  Since everyone has an opinion about something, I'm sure we'll be talking to you real soon.

Welcome again.

Hi Kristen!  Just wanted to add my welcomes to you too.

My hubby grew up in Aberdeen and we were married there, so I'm fairly familiar with it.  His sister and brother still live there but his parents moved further north last year.  Anyway, it's a lovely granite city and holds lots of good memories for us.  Have you visited your sweetie there at all?

There's lots of folks here from and around Surrey so they will be able to help you out with all the local stuff there if you need it someday.

Anyway, welcome to the group and please come back as often as you like!  :)  We've all been 'borderline nuts' before moving here but that's what's seen us through the tough times.  Hope to see you around soon!!

Thank you for the warm welcomes. :)

Wishstar, yes - I did visit Aberdeen in April. Honestly, I loved it! We visited Stonehaven, Edinburgh and then rented a car (hair-raising experience in itself.. Greeks drive on the right as well. :P) and drove to Inverness, Loch Ness and stayed a few days on Isle of Skye. Absolutly beautiful - and not a drop of rain in the 2 weeks I was there!

My only complaint is what is with all the roundabouts in that country?! I just had to close my eyes and say a prayer (he was driving of course!)

The distance is... I can't even put a word to it. 'It sucks' doesn't seem to cover it. There are days when I want to drop my computer out the window and drown the phone in the bathtub.

But! Light at the end (or middle) of the tunnel for now. I am leaving in 3-1/2 weeks to meet him in London :) :) :) ...spend a few days there and then we go to Greece for 2 weeks to meet his family (*panic*!) and see where he is from. :)

I am not excited or anything  ;D

wow, for being a shy girl I am sure typing alot!

Anyways, thanks again for the welcomes :)

Have a wonderful time in Greece.  It's so beautiful there.  At least in the pictures I've seen.  Will expect a full report when you get back.  Can't wait to hear all about it.

Welcome to the Boards.  Amazing how many people have actually gone through, or are in the process of going through, something that most people consider totally alien, and that had you feeling kinda alone huh?  I swear if it wasn't for this board and the great people on it, I'd have screwed everything up for my upcoming trip.  You'll find nothing but encouragement and great advice here, so feel free to post a bit of everything! :)
The search for my future ex-wife marches on...
