Shipping From Sweden
« on: November 11, 2005, 11:53:09 AM »
I know there used to be an American lady here that moved with her Swede from Sweden, but it's been awhile and I cannot remember her name.  If you're still here and reading (or anybody else who has done the move from Scandinavia to the UK), can you give me some idea of what you took, what it cost and who moved you?  I don't have a whole lot, probably a few boxes of cherished books, a FEW kitchen things and a few linens and clothes, so I'm not talking about a moving van full of stuff.  It may even be cheaper to put it in storage and just come back here occasionally and take a load back with me on the plane.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.

My Swedish man and I moved from Sweden to Vienna and then here, but we had some of our things sent here from his parents in Sweden. Because the stuff from Sweden was about 5 boxes, we used SAS Cargo from Gothenburg Airport. We actually took it to the drop off ourselves (when we moved to Vienna...his dad took the rest for us when we moved here). The actual company that sent the stuff is called Trust, a division of SAS Cargo. They have a website www.trustforwarding.com.
The things that you are talking about moving are the kind of things that make you feel at home, so I recommend moving them with you.
Another option, if you want to drive, is to take the boat from Gothenburg to Newcastle. Depending on where you live and where you are going...and of course if you have a car or someone who wants to take you. It might be a reasonably priced option.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else, all I ask for is a tube of kalles kaviar and some Snus for my partner!!  ;)

No car, but I'll check the link and of course I'll bring the Kalles and the snus of your choice.  For myself, I'm stockpiling Zoegas Skåne roast coffee.  I'll be over in the spring and hopefully, maybe I can find a friend with a combi here, who would love to take a trip to the UK in their car if I pay for the gas and I can get my stuff and my dog over there without too much hassle.  Thanks for the response.
