Fernie Castle in Fife, Scotland
« on: July 18, 2005, 01:30:36 AM »
Anyone ever visit Fernie Castle in Fife, Scotland?  As always, pictures and websites are not a fair alternative to a personal visit.  Online reviews that I've read are all either stellar or horrid, and unfortunately, I seem to find more of the latter.  However, I'm of the opinion that people would rather use their time to complain about a place than to take the time to offer praise for having received fine service and communicating that they were pleased with the accommodations; and, perhaps this is the reason that I'm finding so many negative reviews.
DF and I are now looking for castles preferably in the Edinburgh or Fife areas for our wedding.
If anyone's ever been to Fernie, I'd like to hear from you.  I'd rather know in advance to scratch it off the list, before visiting, if it's really no good.
Thanks, everyone!   :)

I may be too late with this one- my SIL is getting married at Fernie Castle in 2 weeks! I have been to see it, and it is really nice. What I liked about the reception room is that its round, so everyone is looking at each other all of the time. THere is a really great little bar area, that is dark and dungeony- very scottish, great for the american tourists that will be there! One bad thing is the bathrooms are kind of shabby. SIL is going to decorate and spruce them up. I am staying over night in the castle and will definately let you know how it is if you can wait that long! PM me if you're still interested!

Can't say I've been there.  Glamis has to be one of hte creepiest places I've been to, although it's not open for people to hire out as a venue, however, as it's still the home of the Earls of Strathmore and the Queen Mum was born there.

CREEPY & ERRIE!
