Advance Passenger Information

Advance Passenger Information (API) is information currently required by the US Government about passengers prior to them travelling. We (and all other airlines) are required to collect this information from our passengers who are travelling to the US and transmit it to the US Customs and Border Protection.

Due to new regulatory and legislative requirements, from 4 October 2005 we (and all other airlines) will be required to collect additional Advance Passenger Information. From this date, we need to collect this from you before you travel. You will have to supply this information by the time you check in for your flight or you will be unable to travel.

I would assume booking agents will collect this information as routine when booking.  If it is obligatory it should just be  incorporated into there procedures. Unless ofcourse im being too logical again !!  ;)

BA already require this.  That is why if I fly BA to the States, I have to show my US passport at check-in in London and not my UK passport.

Well, yes.  But forewarned and is forearmed and this way, if you know you're going to be asked this information, you can have it to hand at the time of booking, rather than being caught out.
