Hurray for passport confusion!

I have an application to open a bank account, and I want it to be in my married name. I've read some of the posts about ammending the name on their passports. I'm just a bit confused about the whole process. Do I apply for a new passport? Do they just stick a sticker on there with my married name? Does it cost a lot? Will I have to go to London? I hate doing things by post, so if I do go we'll just make a long weedend out of it.

If you want to get it changed, you can send your passport to the US embassy in London.  The service is now free, though you have to pay postage, of course.  I think most people get theirs back in a couple of weeks.  They just make a note in the passport that your name has changed -- nothing happens to the page with your name and photo.
