Did anyone find any useful books to help with the move?
« on: September 12, 2005, 06:59:29 PM »
Hi,

I'm moving in about four months and was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the relocation / moving to London books out there. I've seen ones like Newcomer's Handbook for Moving to London by Janetta Willis, Living and Working in London by Dan Finlay, etc on Amazon and was wondering if any of them were helpful.

Anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks...

Living and Working in Britain: A Survival Handbook by David Hampshire. I've been here over two years, and I still turn to it from time to time! It's updated annually (or, at least, pretty regularly) and is available on Amazon.

Hi. "Living and Working in London" was probably the BEST and most informative of the 3 or 4 books we purchased in preparation for our move.  DO NOT buy "The London Bible" unless you are a 18-22 year-old single guy or gal. It's definately catered to the college party crowd.   The other helpful book we loved was the DK Eyewitness guide to London. The appendix and full-color diagrams are extremely useful for tourists and locals alike. I still carry it everywhere on weekends.

ditto to what apstyle said - "Living and Working in London" was given to all the new faculty before we arrived...very handy!

And get an A- Z map of London...you'll need it immediately! (remember Z is pronounced zed)
