Any Recs for Water/Power Etc?
« on: September 20, 2005, 04:02:11 PM »
Does anyone have any recommendations for the most affordable but respectable water companies and power companies?   Are there garbage companies too?  how does that work? who do we pay (if we have to)?

Thanks

when choosing suppliers I use: www.uswitch.com.  type in your details and it tells you the cheapest, or the greenest, or the friendliest supplier in your area.  can be used for phones, internet, teley, gas, electric, water etc.

as for personal experience.  i've used powergen for my gas/electric and anglian water for my duh! water.  been reasibily happy with both.  however, i haven't had a particular problem that needed solving so as for customer service I can't vouch.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

You dont really have a choice for water... you go with the regional company.  Same with rubbish... it will normally be the local council that collects it.
For gas & leccy, though... you have a choice, and there will likely be countless people chapping your door or phoning you to discuss it throughout your lifetime!

Wow, that uswitch website is awesome!  I've been looking for something like that.  I couldn't do much "shopping around" since I didn't even know what companies were available for the different utilities.  Same thing with the banks.  If the calculations are correct, it looks like I'd stand to save about £250 just having a water meter installed!!  Cha-ching!! $$$ (or £££ rather!)

For leccy, I use Good Energy: http://www.good-energy.com/.  They are the only supplier of electricity that is from 100% renewable sources.  And they're pretty good on price, too.  All the rest use fossil fuels or some other non-renewable source.

I use Powergen for gas but only because they were the cheapest at the time and I was looking for anyone but British Gas.  I've not had any problems so far.

I think there's even a deal where if you recommend someone you and the person you recommend get a bottle of organic wine.
Check 'em out!
