What do you think?
« on: September 27, 2005, 10:46:01 AM »
Hi,
At the moment I'm living in Pennsylvania with my USC husband, we're going to be here for at least the next 3 years as he's just gone back to school to get a degree.
We're married, young-ish (both 29) and no kids yet.

I've been here in the USA for 18 months and haven't really settled in very well. I know that if I was somewhere a bit more cosmopolitan than central Pennsylvania that I would probably find it a bit easier. We plan to either head out to the west coast (California or Oregon)  in 3 years or head back to the UK.

Which do you think is the best option: Move back after hubby is done with school, have life, career and kids in UK then retire to USA or life career etc in USA and retire to UK?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this as we're having difficulty deciding which one would be the more ideal situation.

I don't even consider retirement, personally.  It's not going to be a reality for many in my generation and just below it in today's day and age.  Instead I'm training for a career in which I can become self-employed and which I enjoy doing.

Personally, tomorrow is promised to no one and I'd hate to live my life for a future I may or may not have.

Impossible to say which is a better scenario for you and your hubby, but expat is right.  I have a dear friend whose husband was unexpectedly stricken w/terminal brain cancer...brought home the concept of living in the present...
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.
