a word of introduction
« on: November 07, 2003, 11:30:08 PM »
It’s been suggested that I say a few words of introduction.  Aged 42,male, single, living in Hertfordshire, I stumbled into here by chance looking for information about Murphy’s Oil Soap, I think. (doesn’t seem to be sold here).  Anyway, I hung around as sometimes it is interesting/instructive to see ourselves as others see us.  It’s a sort of an antidote to the ill-informed criticism of Britain and the British that I often see on other boards, (one in particular) often by Americans who’ve never been here, along the lines of “Britain is a socialist toilet and they’re all going down the tubes”.  A while back CeltictotheCore made a good point about people who rant against America without ever having been there.  It works in the other direction too.  While I won’t deny that we have our problems, informed criticism is more likely to command respect.
And I can chip in the occasional word of explanation when it seems appropriate.

James

Well James thanks for stopping by and introducing yourself!  Now we know who you are and can badger you with endless questions.   ;D

I for one promise to call nothing a socialist toilet -though I rather like the word combination and might need to find a use for it!

I hope you are able to find some useful information and contribute a bit to our discussions.  Since you mentioned it..have you had the chance to travel to the USA?

hey James!  Nice to know more about you!  Murphy's Oil Soap is great stuff and it is unfortunate that it is not sold here.  :(
Happy to have you on board!

Hi James, welcome to the boards. :) Thank you for posting your intro, it helps us to know where you're coming from.

I thought I had included somewhere a UK equivalent of the Murphy's, I think it's Pledge Wood Soap, or something similar to that, I don't have a bottle on hand. :) Have you been to the States? How was it you were looking for Murphy's? just curious. ;)

Hi James, welcome to UK Yankee.  I've seen your other posts and frankly, I was curious about you.  So I think your alias is appropriate to you, or actually I guess that makes me a Curious American.  LOL

I went to the US in '87 and again in '92. A shooting vacation in New England & along the Great Lakes into Ohio. Murphy's is an ingredient in somebody's recipe for bullet lubricant.
