Going to the Lakes District
« on: October 05, 2005, 09:59:39 PM »
We are going to The Lakes district for our anniversary next month and I am looking for recommendations on places to stay.  Has anyone been there?

A gorgeous area; I went there in '82, and I honestly don't remember where else we stayed, but the highlights were a visit to Beatrix Potter's house, and we stayed one night here:

and I'm happy to see it's still up and running!

(I did NOT stay in the tapestry room!  Fortunately I didn't find out it was supposed to be haunted until the next morning!)

We had an amazing time in the Lake District last Sept!

We stayed in Keswick which is close to Beatrix Potter's House and many other sites!

This is the place we stayed- really nice and comfy, too.

Hope you have a great time!

We alway stay in Ambleside at the Lyndale B&B.  It near the first bus stop on your way into town from Windermere.

For some good location shots around the Lake District,  look out for the 1974 film version of "Swallows & Amazons."    It usually comes round on TV every year or so.

Love Ambleside!  It's gorgeous and the town is quite cute...great hiking, lovely lake...I've only stayed in a hostel but there are some wonderful B&Bs.
