Goji Berries
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:09:40 PM »
I received a package of Goji Berries from a friend, I have never had them before.  If you have, what did you think about them?  They are suppose to be packed full of nutrients.

I don't know what you do w/ them but they are supposed to be a super fruit.  Packed w/ loads of vitamins and nutrients.  I did a google search and mostly people had them juiced.  Are they like cranberries and can you make muffins or bread w/ them??

They are expensive!   ;D I have heard a lot about them and almost bought them but balked at the £7.99 price for a bag of them at Tesco...

I am going to go get them though as they are very high in nutrients and especially iron (which I need being anemic)...and well my curiousity is getting the best of me...

I have no idea what they taste like, but all the places say they are  cranberry like... and well I guess you could use them in what ever way you use ant dried berry...

I've seen them as juice and read a lot about them recently. I suppose if you don't come up with anything more interesting you could put them in a blender and use them for smoothies!

We eat them.  My kids love them.  I think they are OK.  They have a bit of a bland sweet taste and are kind of like hard raisins.  I just eat them because they are good for you.  You might need to soak them before baking or using in smoothies to avoid hard bits.

I first saw them at Julian graves as one of their featured items. I bought a small bag and used it in a batch of homemade muesli. The person who said they are like blandish sweet hard raisins was spot on.

Yeah, Gillian McKeith was pushing them because she sells them in her line of stuff.  LOL  They are much more expensive in her packaging than if you get them in a bigger bag.

My sweetie puts them in his muesli and I also throw them in his porridge so that by the time it cooks they are softened a bit.l

I saw them at Julian Graves as well.  I think they were also advertising they were good for your heart... or maybe they were just trying to get more money off my in-laws?    ::)
