Calling for an appointment to get residency
« on: October 14, 2005, 11:30:27 AM »
I am suppose to file for my residency in February of 2006. (I got my visa in March of 2004 in New York on our honeymoon.) Anyway, I know that I can call and make an appointment to go in person, knowing that it is more expensive this way, but I don't like giving up my passport and I'd rather have it all done and dusted on same day. My question is:

How soon can I call to make the appointment in February? Do I actually have to wait until February to make the call, or can I call before then and make it for February.

Thanks.

basciall, you're applying based on the fact that you've lived in the country for 2 years lawfully.... therefore you can apply 28 days before this 2 years is up.  I would call 2 weeks before this 28 days (so mid-late january 2006) for an appointment.  make sure your appointment is only 28 days or less before the end of your further leave to remain visa expires.

this is how i've done things in the past....

but someone else on this board may have experience calling the PEO months in advance, for a specific appoitnment date (in your case somewhere between 1-28 Feb 06 (if your visa expires 1-Mar-06))

You call 2 weeks prior to the date you want to make the appointment for.  They don't make them any further out than that.

So - if you want to make your appointment for 28th February 2006, call the relevant office on 14th February to ask for it.

Thanks, Peedal. I just knew someone would have an answer for me.

I got my visa on the 15th of March 2004, so I will call them and make an appointment on the 1st of February, which should be two weeks before the 15th of February, which is 28 days from the 15th of March 2006.

I am going to be so glad when I get my residency. I have felt like I have been in limbo for two years. It will feel like a weight being taken off my shoulders.

Thanks again. :)
