The very first time I used BC pills, they put me on Nordette 28. It was awful, my hair started falling out and I went crazy! It made me really moody. I went back to the doctor and she put me on Ortho-Cyclen and everything got better immediately. Don't worry there are tons of different pills,  just let the doctor know if you are having side effects and they will find you the right one. I was also concerned about gaining weight, but it didn't happen.

I have never even in my whole life been on birth control pills, and at 28, I'm nervous! She will be putting me on a very low dose, and I'm sure she'll have her own suggestions about which pill is right for me. We will definitely be doing pills - no shots or anything - as this is only a short-term thing and intended more for uterine health than actual birth control.

Not sure if the patch would have the desired effect, but it is also hormonal birth control so it may? You could ask your doctor. I've been using Ortho Evra for about seven months now and absolutely love it! I have not noticed any side effects at all from the patch and it works better for me than remembering to take a pill everyday. Just a thought.  :)

i've been on the patch for 9 months now and love it.  for a bc virgin- it might be easier to remember to change patches once a week rather than a pill every day.

I didn't even think about the patch... I wonder if that would work. Hmmm. The pills are more for the physical effects than actual birth control, so perhaps she'll have some very specifi kind of pill in mind for me anyway, as we're acheiving a specifi hormonal goal? I dunno... but thanks everyone for the input!

I've found that the lower the dosage, the easier it is to have spotting if I miss a pill or two.  I've tried a few, I've been on Ortho Tri Cycline as well and it gave me headaches.  Then I went on Ortho Tri Cycline Lo.  That was pretty good, but now I'm on something called "Estrostep FE"  It seems to be pretty good, I haven't gained any weight, and I never get headaches.  Also, I find that I'm less overly emotional than I was on a higher dosage. :)
