Mind Blowing Books
« on: October 02, 2005, 06:51:45 PM »
I've recently read a couple of books that I got from Amazon to read.  One was called "A Few Kind Words and a Loaded Gun" by Razor Smith.  It was a good read, but a bit repetetive in that he went in and out of prison like a yoyo.  I also read another book called "Amongst The Marines" by Steven Preece.  It was mind blowing.  The story covered the personal life style of a british marine.  It was violent, it was funny, it was disgusting and yet a very good mind blowing story.

Can anyone recommend any similar books? ;D

Damage - by Josephine Hart

One of the most disturbing and mind blowing books I've ever read.  Made into a fantastic movie by Louis Malle with Jeremy Irons and Juliette Binoche.

My favorite quote from the book that I took as my own for many years:
"Damaged people are dangerous, they can live through anything."

It is a very short book actually, but with a big punch.  About eight years ago I bought a copy of it in paperback.  I started it passing around girlfriends, but they had to sign their name to the inside after they read it.  The last I was able to track it, it had over ten names in the cover, I often wonder if it's still making the rounds and gathering names.

~Liza
"Be not the slave of your own past - plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with a new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old."  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've now read Preece's sequal "Always A Marine".  I must admit, it is very different to his first book but in a similar fashion, very real and down to earth.

It hasn't been released via the amazon.com site, but I found it on the UK one.
