US to UK Adapter
« on: November 08, 2005, 10:12:59 PM »
Guess what I forgot to pack?  [smiley=doh.gif]

Consequently, I can't charge my mobile, my Palm, or my laptop.  Any ideas on the best place to look for one?

Thanks!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

For anyone else in this position who doesn't have a suitable store nearby, adapters can also be purchased from mail order electronics suppliers, such as Maplin.

I got mine from Maplin's.  Your laptop should be chargeable in the UK without a voltage converter, but double check on the AC adaptor.

I brought my computer set up with me (computer, photo printer, palm pilot, etc....).  Will I need a special adaptor?

Most desktop PCs are switchable for 120 or 240V supplies.  Monitors, printers, and other peripherals are more variable -- Some are dual-voltage, others aren't.

You'll need to check the labels on each device to see the acceptable supply voltages.  If everything will run on 240V, then you'll just need the plug adapter, otherwise you would need to run via a step-down transformer.

Paul is 110% correct!
Everything we bought prior to moving, we specifically checked to make sure it was 110-220V or had a power cord that could be replaced with a universal one.

Don't worry about the part that connects from the power box to the wall, those are cheap and available at most all electronic stores.

Best advise, bring it from the states - don't buy it here unless you absolutely have to.

America is like Mexico cost wise compared to the UK.

Best of Luck!
