Crusing?
« on: November 29, 2005, 10:13:19 AM »
my partner and I (both 25) are thinking of going on a cruise next year.  after looking online- cruises seem to fall into one of two catagories- party hearty all night long with yougins or mundane sedate 50+.  has anyone been on a cruise?  to the med or something local (greece, turkey, italy, etc)?  was there enough to do without getting drunk 24 7?  insights/comments welcome.

My mum, aunt and i went on a cruise this past May.. Reasonably priced when bought ahead of time.It was a casual cruise line so no dress up dinners etc.. There were folks of all ages from familys with kids to older folks in wheelchairs.. They had plenty of offshorte excursions to chooose from..
I know starting in 2006 they have added another ship to their fleet.. Its called Ocean Village Cruises... website is www.oceanvillageholidays.co.uk
(pretty sure thats it) lol..
Take a look see what you think.

i've a very independet traveller, mostly work related though.  am i crazy in thinking i will feel trapped and confined on a cruise.  will i feel the need to party all night long?  or lay by the pool 24/7?   there must be a cruise out there for someone like myself and my partner- we're 25.  we like a drink or two but we're not into nightclubs, partying etc....

What do you want to see?  How much activity do you want to do?

I went on a cruise a few years ago with my folks; granted, I was just about the youngest one on the ship (early 30's), BUT, there were so many activities on board as well as off, it didn't bother me... 'cept when I tried to get involved in the country dancing, and the staff virtually ignored me in order to dance with the 'older' single ladies... fine.  ::)

Anyhoo, it was a Holland America cruise to/around Alaska, hence a lot of off-ship activities.  And it was gorgeous.  I would personally NOT recommend Holland America, but I would HIGHLY recommend a cruise to Alaska.

My parents are FAR from 'mundane sedate 50+' - in fact, as I type this, they're just finishing a cruise with 5 days in Madrid, after seeing Greece, Egypt, Malta, and I'm not sure what else (they really wanted to see Libya, but thanks to the US Gov't's poor manners, we're not welcome there right now :) ).
