Paris in December
« on: December 12, 2005, 12:45:57 PM »
Hi there
I'm going to Paris for a couple of days at the end of December. I'm taking my mom and it's her first time on the continent so want it to be special. Anyone have any tips on good touristy stuff to do either during the day or for dinner time?

Thanks

a river cruise on the Seine is good...make sure you get one that has English commentary........they are quite informative!

Maybe go to the Moulon Rouge??

My sister was just there this weekend.  I'll ask her what she did.

Mimsey, I lived in paris for about a year and the thing I missed the most was dining in the Latin Quarter, always so festive.  Also try the ice rink at Hotel de Ville, even if you don't skate it's beautiful this time of year!

OMG I've been to Moulin Rouge... the tickets were like 100 Euros (I didn't pay) and it was the tackiest place EVER!!!  We just drank our free bottle of wine at the table and walked out after about 20 minutes... it was a fun experience but I wouldn't do it again that's for sure!  It was just topless dancers basically...  :D

yeah, have given up on moulin rouge. it's booked up actually already so hey ho. probably not something my mom would be too interested in anyway.

We were just there last weekend. (Can I just say how much Eurostar RULES!!).  We go there quite often as my sister lives there in Trocadero right near the Eiffel Tower.  The city looks beautiful during winter, all decorated for Christmas.  We took a river cruise for the first time, defintely worth doing at least once. If you have the money to splurge, take one of the boats that also includes lunch or dinner.

eurostar is brilliant. frankly that's half the reason i wanted to go there. it's pathetic, but i get really excited at the prospect of a train journey on a nice train. i'm also really keen to show it off to my mom who was virtually born and bread inside a car and doens't quite believe that people travel by train.

am defo thinking i'lll do a boat trip - several have said it's a good way to see the city and even better if it's really cold out.
