The University of Surrey-Roehampton
« on: September 06, 2006, 08:10:16 PM »
hi all
my university has an exchange program set up with roehampton, and i was wondering if any of you knew anything about it. i can find info on the website but i thought it might help to hear from people closer to the school. im a political science major and they seem to have good courses in my area. but here are a few of the questions i have:
is it a good school? is it in a good location? is it well perceived? (ie will i be laughed it if i tell someone thats where i go to school?) any alumni on the boards?
basically any information you might have would be helpful.
thanks!!!!

Can't tell you about the college, but I can tell you about the area...lovely!  Very green, quite quiet, but near enough to Kingston and Wimbledon for some great pubs, and easy to get too and from central London.

It certainly doesn't have a bad rep, and you wouldn't be laughed at.

I work at the University of Surrey and personally wouldn't hold Roehampton (a seperate university that is affliated) in high regard compared with other universities. In comparrison with US schools, it is a low tier 3 or 4 university, on par with lower calibre state universities.

Try taking a look at The Times league tables and do a bit of comparing between the programme you're in and what univerisities you can do an exchange with.

I was interested in there phd program in performance studies/theatre.  I visited when they were out of session.  I really didn't like the area.  The facitilities were not bad.  I guess it depends on the program and what they can offer you.
