co-worker question
« on: December 18, 2005, 03:24:41 PM »
I'm not really sure what to fo about something and I'll explain..

My manager had to go into work today to go through the stock. Yesterday I told him I would stop by and he told me not to bother. He said it was a one man job and I didn't think anything of it. I went by today to see how he was getting on. I felt bad he had to go in by himself, so I was going to see if he wanted anything. He had someone in there with him. This wouldn't make me think of anything usually, but considering he was going on about the whole thing being a one man job I'm a bit suspicious. He really shouldn't have anyone in the shop after closing time anyway. When I went by, he stood by the door, like he was blocking me from coming in. He acted like he wanted me to leave quickly. This is the second time he's had someone in the shop when Dennis or I wasn't there. Last time he insisted we leave while him and his friend shut the shop. If this was a dollar store, I wouldn't care.. We sell Apple Mac stuff and those aren't cheap. My problem is that if something goes missing, it's either Dennis or myself that gets blamed. I don't know if he'd steal or not. I don't really know him. He's all about the rules, unless it's him that's breaking them. I don't care if his friends come to visit while we're open. He made Jamie leave at 5:30 because of security reasons, but he can be in there with his friends alone after closing time. Hmmm. I'm not sure if this is something I should bring up to his manager. The biggest problem I have is that he could easily steal something and have it look like I did it.

I agree, it sounds very suspicous. You should cover your butt and speak to someone, you don't want to get the blame if he is doing anything.

I'd bring it up just to cover your butt.

My first thought, though, is that perhaps he's doing something a bit naughtier in there, you know what I mean? If nothing has come up missing yet... well... then...

This is your manager doing this?

Is there someone higher than him that you can speak to?

They may need someone to come in and do a independant audit on the stock that should be there..........

Yea, he's our manager. There's a few people I could talk to... I don't want to accuse him of stealing, but he's by himself with someone who doesn't work there when they shouldn't be there..... Am I just being paranoid?

I must admit that my first thought was that he is having an affair...is this ppossible? But, he is certainly acting suspicious and I would CYA by reporting it...to someone.

I think you should go with your first instincts...sounds like everyone else does as well.

When things are normal you shouldn't get alarm bells ringing in your head!!!

just be diplomatic as possible.....
