cough
« on: January 05, 2006, 07:40:43 PM »
So I've had this cough for weeks now. It's worse when I talk too much or exercise at all. But of course I can't take anything for it.

Any suggestions at all besides honey and lemon?

Should I see the doc if it continues? I have no other cold or flu-like symptoms and this is getting really annoying.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I know how you feel. I had a bad cough with Jack and everytime I had a coughing fit I felt he was going to shoot out and across the room!
I couldnt drink OJ because the acid was too much for me but I did use a vaporiser in the bedroom at night and also drank a lot of hot tea. If you dont have a vaporiser you can put a damp towel on a hot radiator.
Feel better!

LOTS of hot drinks.  do you have one of those facial saunas?  you have to be VERY careful about keeping them clean, but if you suffer from sinusitis regularly like i do, they are WELL worth it.

how about a humidifier for your room?  might help w/a little cool mist to counteract the dry heater.

I had a bad throaty cold when I was pregnant and my husband made me  hot lemon and SALT drinks. Sounds gross but it made my throat a lot better.

you might want to go to the doc at some stage.
i once had a cough for about 2 months (like you, with no other symptoms).
the doc gave me a blue inhaler (as prescribed for people with asthma) to use whenever i was having a bit of a coughing fit, and it cleared the cough up within about a week.

I noticed this even though it's in the pregnancy section - thought I'd pipe in. DH and I both had that super annoying cough about a month ago - didn't feel at all sick, just couldn't shake the cough. I started carrying around sweets - like hard lemon drop type things - they encourage saliva and sometimes just lubricating a bit helps!

Yes, our family is plagued by the same never-ending cough. No history of asthma, just a cough that will not go away. A little bit of phlegm that comes up or seems to stay between nose and throat that won't go away either. What do we do to get rid of it? Our doctors are useless. I've got air cleaners, which help in the spring. Is it damp? Is it a virus? I hate it! We all, except for the baby, have it. We had it last year too. In fact I would say that we had a maybe two month break from it all told, it never seems to go away. What is it???

It's lodged itself in Aillidh's chest and given her a nasty infection.  I need to buy stock in Robutussin.

She'd had a 'bark', as Andrew calls it, but it went away.  Then FIL gave her a chest cold.  The cough is BAD - like keep her up bad, so bad she was throwing up what she drank last night (she's not eating at all) - now.  The Robutussin is making a dent, but that's about it.  Still waiting for the anti-biotics to kick in.

just be careful.  GP said there's a lot of pneumonia resulting from this damned cough.

2 thoughts - agree with pebbles re: vaporiser. we have underfloor, centrally controlled heating and our flat is *so* dry that I cough a lot.

also, i know pregnancy can set off some people's asthma. not sure if you suffer but could be a very mild form.

good luck and for sure go to the doctors if it's lasted 2 months.
