Rent a bedroom in a house?
« on: December 30, 2005, 06:24:32 PM »
A lot of times I've heard of people renting a room in a house.  You know, a place where each bedroom is rented to somebody and the living area/bathrooms/kitchen is shared.  So I'm starting to think that maybe that would be a good option for first few months in London, instead of jumping into renting a flat right away.  Has anybody done it?  And where would I find a place online that advertises that kind of housing?

I haven't done it but I am considering it myself for the first few months since the situation with my DH is still messy at best.  ::)

Here are some links I have found. Hopefully others will post more. Good luck! :)

In addition to the ones Courtney just put up - only one I can think of rightaway is www.gumtree.com

obviously house sharing has it's own set of 'issues' and so long as your fine with the positives and negatives, it'd make a good way of 'starting' off here in London.

You may wanna check the agents around Heathrow, I spoke to a nice middle aged lady who does alot of Heathrow airport rentals for the flight attendant girlies, and I remember her saying she likes to put all girls into a houseshare.

I wish I could afford more properties to rent! I'd have all you 'popping over here Americans' nicely looked after ! im a 'nice' landlord!!!!

I have done it...as long as you don't mind sharing common areas w/other people who may have very different lifestyles,  I think it's a great option

I found myroom(it was in Dublin, Ireland) on a site called DAFT which used to also have pages for London, Galway and more...but that was 5+ yrs ago now and I'mnot sure they're  still functional or free

www.DAFT.ie was the URL

It took me a little bit to figure it out, too. :)
