this may not work for you, but thought I'd share.
I don't really have the 'burn' of heartburn, but after I eat my food just stays stuck in my chest and it starts to get really uncomfortable.
Aside from tasting like hell in a spoon, Gaviscon doesn't help me. The two things that help are Tums and sunflower seeds.
The Tums is a total mystery, but somehow chewing on them helps me push my food down and relieve discomfort.
The sunflower seeds have bromelaine in them and they really seem to work. (Apparently avocado, salmon, have similar properties. Here's where I got the idea:
