what's the Ofsted equivalent in the US?

a friend of mine in the US has asked me to help her research daycare for her son (she is without internet), and i was wondering this..... anyone?  =)

I had a look online and it seemed a bit sketchy to me. The laws and regulations vary widely from state-to-state.

Anyway, I did find a link and it lists all the goverment agencies involved, such as the department of human services, social programs, depending on the state you live in.

It also lists worker qualifications, caregiver/child ratios, etc.. It was pretty interesting.
