Any tips for buying open tickets?
« on: January 06, 2006, 12:55:12 PM »
My mom wants to come over from the States to help me when the baby is born [early June]. Obvsiously I don't know exactly when it's going to happen so I was thinking she should get an open ticket so she could hop on a plane at a moment's notice. The only thing is that I assume open tickets are really expensive.

Does anyone have any tips on getting a decent deal on an open ticket like this? Best to buy in advance? Any particular airline? Is open ticket the right way to go?

Thoughts appreciated!

wow what a difficult question. I'm 100% sure that open ended tickets are more expensive but in your situation I'm guessing that would be best. I'm not quiet sure you can buy them to be open for the day you leave...isn't it always open to the day you come back?

I'm guessing the best way to find this out...would be to call the airlines that you want to fly with and ask them.

Good luck and congrats on your baby

an open ticket would be a full fare ticket........not necessarily a full fare first class ticket but a full fare economy ticket.....

As always call the airlines and see what the best one available is.......

How about doing it with Air miles?  Can you do that?  Or you have to reserve those well in advance?
