Try the Ramblers - they are awesome!

A much older group - but you will be surprised at the fitness of these pensioners!  Puts me to shame!

I found a group of 20-30 year olds at the Ramblers in Leicester.  Thanks for the endorsement, now I'll really look into joining them!

The Ramblers are trying to attract more people in that age group. They do some great walks!

MrsPink, I am not in Leicestershire so I cannot help you there.  But I was thinking of starting a similar thread -- just to find out how many UKY-ers are ramblers?  My husband and I like to get out but I don't like doing it in the cold and rain -- so perhaps I'm not a true British rambler (yet).  (We did try to do Whernside http://www.yorkshire-dales.com/whernside.html a couple years ago on a very chilly rainy muddy day -- but I wimped out after we'd sat & ate our lunch in the rain and my fingers & everything else were freezing.)  I am still trying to cultivate an appreciation for all that mud too. :P

Anyways, I'm not very fit -- Steve is, and so that's why we started walking -- to get me more fit and because he enjoys it (bit of a camera buff).  We did a walking weekend last August in Swaledale http://www.swaledale.net/ -- there we walked about 20 miles maybe in the entire 3-day weekend, and both with light packs (waterproofs & our picnics & water).  That was the most I've ever walked all together & I was exhausted but it was sure fun too.  We stayed in Reeth there, which is on the Coast to Coast Walk from St Bees in the Lake District to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.

We started thinking about doing a longer distance walk at that point, and have settled on attempting (within 2 years maybe) the Dales Way -- from Bowness-on-Windermere to Ilkley.  Well I don't think I'm fit enough to do that yet -- averaging 8-10 miles per day for a week or more!  I hope to work up to that.

These cold days I'm dreaming about getting out again (when the weather gets warmer).  We didn't join the Ramblers, but Icicle is right about the fitness of some of the pensioners in Ramblers!

So just wondering about other ramblers on this site?  And anyone interested in talking about rambling, etc? :)
