Don't know if anyone else follows tennis?

Venus Williams got knocked out in the first round of the Australian Open.

I'm already looking forward to Wimbledon and its only January! :)

No way!

I do follow tennis, but have a tough time with the Australian due to the huge time difference. Besides, my favourite, Marat Safin, isn't in it, so ... feh. ;)

Bring on Wimbledon!

I just checked the Aussie Open website, and it's not just Venus. Elena Dementieva, Jelena Dokic and Ai Sugiyama are all out already as well!

I saw Venus practicing in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago with her coach for a tournament that was being played there and she looked be hitting her strokes well.  She did lose later in the day to Davenport, but I didn't expect her to lose in the 1st round of the Australian Open.

Sorry, I've been in Britain too long when I refer to Andy as Murray not Roddick!  Roddick won his 1st and 2nd round matches in straight sets.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Murray lost because of the conditions.  I don't know what they've been like in Melbourne but I do know that the on-court temperature during the tournament can get up to 140 degrees farenheit.  Knowing his past physical problems, he may very well have succumbed to this.  After all he is from Scotland, it don't get very hot there!

And I was automatically thinking Roddick or Agassi! But Agassi's not even in the Australian, is he?

Good point. He may have to consider doing some of his training in warmer climes.

I think Agassi had some kind of injury if memory serves.

Well, he does train at the LTA centre in La Manga in Murcia, Spain and that probably helps, especially in winter when the weather is much nicer than Britain but at heart he's a Scots!  It's a bit like when DW lived for America in years and could just never get used to the high heat and humidity.

According to the Agassi Open website, his continuing ankle injury forced him to pull out of Kooyong and the AO.

However, he has requested a wild card for the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships which start 30th January in Delray, Florida.
He is such a little doll-baby! [smiley=smitten.gif]

Tell me about it! :)
