Please, can anyone give me an answer?

I have posted this before, and I do apologize for doing it again, but my only other recourse is to call the British Embassy at $2.10 per minute.  I am concerned about the paper my DF sent me from his council.  It only states that he has lived there for twelve years.  It has no mention of me.  I understand that a lease has a back page to fill out, but there is no lease, therefore no back page.  He said they didn't have to know until I am there, and there will be no problem, as he has a 3 BR home and no one else living there.   But will the consulate see it the same way?  Must I INSIST that Erewash Council send a letter stating that it is alright?  I need to know, as I have everything else to send for my finacee visa, but I don't want to be denied on a technicality!   Please help.  So sorry to bother you again, but you have been so helpful, and other than this, I think (THINK) I am OK.

Does he live in council housing? why a letter from the council? if he is living alone, he is most likely claiming the 25% single person benefit and until you move over there is no point in changing that.

As for the lease, who is the owner of the property, the council or private landlord? I am private but my lease has no "back page" so I don't understand what you mean. If I wanted someone to move in with me, I'd ask permission and get a letter from the owner in writing and then inform the council to change my single person status.

Suzie, I'm not an expert, but it seems to me the whole point of the letter from the landlord (in this case the council) is to allow you to live there and to make sure you won't be overcrowded.  If the letter doesn't mention you at all or that he's allowed to have other people move in, I very much doubt they'll accept it.  Of course, I could be wrong (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am!), but everytime the fiancee visa has come up here, the letter from the landlord (and the giving of permission for the fiancee to live there) is always mentioned as being very important.

That is the whole point of the letter from the council... to show that your fiance has the council's permission to have someone else move into THEIR property.

When a local authority is involved, these things can be hellishly difficult to obtain because they don't see providing it as a priority.  While an independent surveyor can be used to clear the overcrowding hurdle, the alert ECO will look for all the requirements to be met.  So you'll need something showing the 'landlord' agrees to your living there.

If the local authority remains recalcitrant, your fiance can always take it up at his ward surgery.  Also community groups can be chillingly effective.
