Anyone have any recommendations for what to see in Dublin and the surrounding countryside? We'll have 5-7 days. Thanks in advance!

The Guinness brewery is a must!   ;D  Temple Bar area, Trinity College (I think the Book of Kells is here), St Patrick's Cathedral are some places to see in Dublin.   If you have a chance, go to the western side of Ireland, around County Kerry, it is very scenic.

It's a two hour train ride from Dublin to Belfast, why not come up north for a look around?

Co. Leitrim and Cavan have some nice spots as well.

I can't say I was impressed with Dublin -- Just another drab sprawling urban area in my opinion, but then I'm not a city person.

I would definitely try to get out into the countryside. Dublin is great and all, but I don't think there's enough to see there to fill 5-7 days. The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, and Ring of Kerry are all really neat things to do. (But, for the Ring of Kerry, you'll need to rent a car and be able to devote probably about three days of your trip to it. I think the other two are day trips from Dublin.)

Good luck!

A friend & I were in Dublin and did the day trip out to Malahide castle and around the cliffs looking across the Bay to Dublin - really nice trip.
Not really sure what else, the only other time DW & I were in Ireland we took the train from Dublin to Cork which was a few hours and stayed overnight.  Cork is a nice city.
