Quick Marriage question-needing an apostille?
« on: January 21, 2006, 01:37:13 AM »
Fiancee and I are tying the knot on tuesday!!!  She is from the UK, I am from the US, and the wedding is in the US.  Our officiant spoke of potentially needing an apostille for the marriage license for it to recognized in the UK.  I'm told its an inexpensive certification that can be obtained from a specific public official.  I am planning on applying for the spousal visa after the wedding, so will I even need the apostille?  Also, once I have the spousal visa how long is it good for because I'm not planning to immigrant until summer 2006?  Thanks!

I have no idea on the apostille and this is the first time I've ever heard of it. I can tell you that the marriage certificate you get from the county after the wedding will work just fine in the UK and when applying for your visa.

Any reason why you're applying for your visa so early? I'm not exactly sure on the times but I do believe you need to wait until it's closer to the time you're leaving to apply.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. :)

No you won't need anything. The UK recognises legal US marriages as legal.
