You need to bear in mond that Council Tax varies from council to council, and is dependent on the size of the property, so check before you decide where to move to by looking on the website of the local council.

Don - your heating bills sound huge, even for a property that size.  I think I would invest in insulation so that you can have the heating on lower throughout the day.  Are you going by meter readings or by a British Gas assessment?

Our council tax is based on the value of the property, regardless of size.

In Edinburgh, your water, sewage and rubbish collection are added to your council tax bill, even in a house.  There are no water meters.

Our rental property has electric storage heaters.  No gas.  Our power bills are a fortune.

Sorry - I should have said value of the property, as this is more accurate, though usually a bigger property will be more valuable.

I am renting, so I am not about to put a dime into insulation in this house, lol.  I have switched companies, so I am hoping that helps.  We have very old windows in this house, I think that is where we lose most of the air.  NEVER again will I rent a place with seeing only email pics....this has been a nightmare.
