Well done on your PASS. Be careful out there!
I took mine here(25) after having been driving since I wuz 8 (legal since 15). I could not fathom out the steering so I asked the instructor if he would fail me if I did hand over hand. He would not say, so I did hand over hand and I passed!! He later told me that he was looking to see if I was observant, legal and in control and posed no danger to myself or other road users. What you are taught are mostly guidelines (one exception- the "onehand on the wheel at all times" LAW). If you are new, he said they will see that you follow the guidelines pretty precisely. My son passed his first time but I know many who have taken the exam many many times and many £££'s lighter.
Regarding speed cameras (I have a cutting torch for anyone interested), seriously three (3) times over the years I have my picture taken(67 in a 60, 78 in a 70 and 35 in a 30). They gave 3 points and 60 Lizzies each time. AND to add insult to injury the points stay on your license/licence for 3 years and your insurance premiums go up. In fact a lot of insurance companies won't take you on if you have 6 points!
They should only be used where pedestrians are at, ie towns and villages but dual carriage straight aways? Tayside actually put the cameras behind road signs and was proved to be using them only as a money earner but had to move them when the euro court ruled on the cameras, hence nowadays you should be able to know there is a camera ahead and see the camera from a distance (gives you time to straighten your hair or tie).
Any way that's my two cents or is that tuppence?
