What is FLR/ILR??
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:42:14 PM »
I'm dumb, please tell me what FLR and ILR stands for.  I just know I need a spouse visa and am getting confused by the abbreviations!

FLR= Further Leave to Remain..  you'll apply for this first.  It's valid for 3 years as a spouse.

ILR= Indefinite Leave to Remind.. you apply for this after your FLR is up and it's permanent residency.

You'll apply for FLR(M) for your spousal visa.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I believe that this visa (the first spousal one) is an LLR (Limited Leave to Remain) -- to further confuse things! [smiley=inquisitive.gif]  That's what it says on mine anyway -- and it's 2 years, not 3.  I would think it's the same for everyone on the spousal visas?  I remember some discussion (or confusion--lol) of this on another thread.

Garry and/or Victoria? :)

my understanding was that LLR is for people who came in on a spouse visa after already being married, and FLR is what is granted when switching status in country from a fiance visa...
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

I switched status in the UK from a fiancee to a spousal visa, and the LLR is what I got.

FLR is 2 years, I do know that.  I have mine and I renew in May (Got it in 2004)  (I never had a Fiancee Visa though)

And to complicate things even further, I got Indefinite Leave right off the bat because we'd been married over 4 years.  ;D

Check the glossary project at http://www.transpondia.co.uk

Thanks garry!

So where are we getting FLR from?  Is that just the name of a form (paperwork)?

At least partially.  But the passport stamps have been LLR since 2002.
