Anyone have any Eurostar experiences?
« on: February 16, 2006, 07:16:54 AM »
DH and I are taking the Eurostar to Paris in May - just got the tickets in the mail today!  ;D  Really looking forward to it as he has never been before and have no idea what to expect on the Eurostar.  We are just going standard economy but I'm assuming you can bring your own food and all that?  And is it really comfortable?  I think the trip is like 3+ hours or something.

I did Eurostar between Paris & London and loved it!  It's very comfy and there is great scenery.  You'll enjoy it!

I did it in September from London to Lille, which is under two hours. It was great! We were standard economy as well, and it was fine and comfortable and clean. From Wales to London we'd had four hours of First Class, so we were a bit worried, but it was great. You'll have a great time! (And, yes, we brought our own food ... and cocktails! ;) )

I take the Eurostar whenever I have to travel to Paris for work.  So much easier than flying to Charles De Gaulle.  Yes you can bring your own food, it's comfortable and there is even a snack car if you need more snacks.  Just so you know you clear immigration at the start of the trip, so you get right of the train and you are ready to go.

i love the eurostar

when i took it first, i thought it was going to be better, i have to say.

i was expecting a super posh train.  it's nice, but not what i expected.  once i got over that, it's a good ride.  fast.  enjoyable.

i take it for work about once a month.....(i'm taking it 3 times in march-yikes) and i go first class now.....so i'm a bit spoiled when i take regular class for personal reasons.  ;)

either way, it's a good service.  just get to guar de nord EARLY when you're leaving.  the queues are insane!

I've taken it twice, once regular and once first.  Both times were very nice.  First you are served a meal and the seats a bit wider, but nothing too drastic.

I haven't ridden the straight passenger service, but I used the drive-on vehicle service a few years ago taking the camper over to France.

All the checks are done at the boarding end, so once you arrive at Calais you just drive off the train and straight out onto the autoroute (ditto on the return to England).   That's one good point, as it eliminates all delays upon arrival.

I've taken it three times.

It is nothing too fabulous compared to many other nice trains in Europe... the glamour really seems to be travelling underwater and all that. It is a nice train though... no sticky seats etc  ;) Scenery is lovely too.

I use Eurostar a lot and I love it the first time I went was for Jess' 2nd birthday to Disney paris ...they bumped us up to first class without asking nor paying for it ..it was as a birthday treat for jess that was cool.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
