Moving from NC to Canterbury
« on: November 30, 2003, 06:37:49 PM »
Hello everyone-
I am new to this site and so glad it's here! I will be moving from Greensboro, NC to Canterbury, Kent in the end of January for a 2 year job at the University of Kent. I am a 27 year old single female with no kids so I figured this would be a good time to live in another country for awhile, and am looking forward to this opportunity since I have never even been to Europe before. I am a little overwhelmed about finding a place to live, getting a car there, moving all my things, (plus finishing my dissertation here in the US!) but the moving board and this website has been very helpful so far- thanks! Can anyone tell me about what it's like to live in Canterbury?

Hi ncjenuk! Wow- sounds like you have got a lot to do AND look forward to!
Don't know much about Canterbury - last time I was there was 20 years ago! I'm sure someone here can give you some info though!

Hi there and welcome on board!  My parents live not far from Greensboro in the MArtinsville/Danville area so we go through Greensboro a lot!  So I have to ask....(as a future PhD) what your dissertation is on and how did you get the position in the UK?

I wish I could offer you some ideas on the Cantebury area, but I am sure that you will find someone on here that can!

Hope to see more posts in the future!

Hi ncjenuk!  Welcome to the site.  Sorry I can't help with Canterbury either!  BUT I'm sure you will find someone with the info to help.  Glad to meet you and will look forward to seeing your experiences in moving.

Thanks for the welcome!

My dissertation is in the area of developmental psychology, generally how children's cognitive abilities affect their understanding of emotions. I applied for the position after seeing an ad online and got the job very quickly after (which is why I'm in such a rush with moving).

Sounds interesting!  (And no I am not kidding!)  I am actually doing mine in Organizational Development but more from an administration point of view.  It does however have a lot of crossover into psychology.

How much are they helping you with relocation?  If not much go ahead and post some questions on the moving board or maybe the expat one and some of the people that don't visit this intro area will see them. Again best of luck!
