Hi All NYC to Guildford, Surrey
« on: November 13, 2003, 01:01:55 PM »
Hello all,
I'm so excited to be here!  I just got engaged last week to my wonderful boyfriend from Surrey.  So now that I know I will be staying I wanted to start making connections to other Americans here as well.

I'm not working at the moment (I wish I could) I've been volunteering at a local school, which I love!  Now I have to also plan a wedding in NYC from here in May.  Any suggestions will be welcome. (I'll post more in the appropriate sections)

Thanks so much, can't wait to meet you!

Stacey  ;D ;D  ;D

Welcome Stacey and congrats on your engagement! I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice from those who have organised wedding long distance. How long have you been over here?

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome.  I moved in June, but went home for six weeks in September.  My fiancé came over the week before I came back and proposed.  It made coming back a lot easier.  My mom and best friend are helping to organize a lot of the wedding details, so I'm lucky that way.  My parents are going to visit some sites this weekend in fact.  How long have you been here?  Was it hard to transition?  Any tips would be helpful.

Hi Stacey just wanted to add my welcome and wish you the best of luck in your wedding plans!  It's such an exciting time.  I know we have several people from the NYC area and they might be able to offer some suggestions for venues and the like.

Hi there Stacey.  Welcome to UKYankee and congratulations on your engagement.  I'm moving over to Wales in April.  So I won't be much help in planning.  I'm getting married here in Boston.  I'm working on the opposite side.  I'm arranging for family and friends to come here.  I will tell you what has been a great help though.  Its called The Knot.  www.theknot.com Its a website that has just about anything you'd care to know about weddings.  You can even go state by state or city by city for venues, limos, caterers etc.  Plus and this is the best part really.  It will help you organize your guest list.  You can list by your guests, his guests, family etc.  You can even print out each section separately.  Then it also has a section where you can put your seating list together.  Anyway, hope that helps.  Glad you're here.

Thanks!  I have the knot and the wedding channel bookmarked.  They really are helpful!  I'm getting married in NY in May, so I don't have much time! I was just telling another member that I lived in Boston for 11 years (1989 to 2000) I go back to visit often.  (Was there for a week when I was home last)  I hope your move goes well.  I still feel naked not having much of my own stuff in this house!

Hi Rose,
I'm actually a Fundraiser.  I worked for The New York Philharmonic for the last three years.  I'm now thinking that teaching is the way to go for me, but it is still early and I need a a month or so to be certain.

I grew up on LI took an eleven year break in Mass. and then ended up on the Upper East Side.  How do you like Bath compared to NY?  I'm still trying to get used to it all.  Guildford is a nice town and I've felt welcome by everyone I've met so far.

Thank you Sherry!  It's been interesting trying to adjust, but I seem to be doing OK ;D

My parents are coming over this weekend, so that is making life easier.

Hi Stacey and welcome.  Congratulations on your engagement.  I can probably help you out a lot as I just got married this past September and our wedding was in NY!  I planned our entire wedding from London with the help of our wedding coordinator.  I made one initial trip last November stayed a month to book our band, the hall, church, photographer.  Then went home at the end of June and booked the florist, the quartet, limos, etc. and stayed there up and until the wedding.  One thing I suggest is a wedding coordinator - she did all the research, gave me suggestions, put all the save-the-date announcements together mailed them out as well as our invitations.  Everything!!  She's also based in NYC on Park Avenue So.  I can give you her name and number if you want.  It's a challenge but it can be done!!  So don't stress out about it.  Enjoy this time.

Cheers,
NYSofM
