application just sent in
« on: February 24, 2006, 12:20:35 AM »
So I just sent in my application for a fiance visa and I wanted to ask if the consulate will notify me about receiving my package, or if I have to contact them to check the progress on my visa.  Thanks.

I believe they will e-mail you.  Good luck!

It depends on which consulate you applied to.  NYC will usually notify you via email that your visa was approved.  LA didn't notify me about my first visa.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Does anyone know how long an application is good for?  I applied on line last June (2005), but was unable to follow through with an appointment because my bf's wife suddenly changed her mind and wouldn't file for their divorce.  She's finally gotten herself a bf and filed last month, so am now planning to try for my visa once again.  Do I need to reapply?  Thanks.

I would wait for a bit over here unless they it can take 2.5 months or it could take 6months  or more so if you are unlucky my divorce took 4 months from start to finish and I was told that was quick. You should wait till he has the decree absolute or at least the first part of it as when you get the first part you then have a cooling off period so that even one of you can change your mind and with his ex's track history don't do anything till you are sure, as long as there are no finacial hold ups or arguements it should not take to long.

If you can come over for a holiday or he can come to you for a little it wont seem so long that is what Chris and I have done and my divorce came through would you believe in the November 3 weeks after he got here I could have screamed LOL we could have got married but did not want to applie for a visa incase it did not come through my divorce was started mid August and was granted the absolute at the End of October I got the paper work confiming the divorce was final the begining of December 2005.

Good luck.

Thanks.  I'm actually going home next week with no ticket to return here (Isle of Man) yet for exactly the reasons you mentioned.  Bf was told it should take 12 weeks, and they've already settled all the details with their separation agreement - which they have both agreed to maintain.  So, who knows, but I'm hoping it won't drag on for too long.

Good luck as long as there are no issues that are suddenly bought up you should be great, I thought mine would fly through which it did my ex did not give me to much hassle as we both had our own houses ect and the 3 older kids where my 1st ex's and the baby is his we have had a lot of problems over that but it did not hold up the divorce.

How long have you been over here for ?

We just can not wait to be married and to gether perm.

Take care

Sonya and Chris

I've been here for just over a year, including several month long visits home.  We had no idea things would take this long and it has been extremely frustrating, not to mention costly since I'm unable to work here.  I can't wait for this all to be over too so we can move on with our lives.  My divorce also took just four months from start to finish because my ex didn't give me a hard time about it.  Guess it's easier when you're both willing to let go.

Do you have a date set yet?  And how long have you been over?

Thanks.  :)

Ellen
