???
« on: February 28, 2006, 05:51:24 AM »
Ok, I have a few questions. I am getting married on May 27, 2006. I was told that I will get my marriage certificate about a month after and I would like to relocate on July 16th. So, here are my questions:

How soon can I/should I apply for my settlement visa?
How much money should we have in the bank to show that we can support ourselves until I get a job?
I was told that I can get my visa the same day, is this true? ( I am in California)
According to the britainusa.com they want you to apply online before you come in for an interview, do they contact me to come in or do I have to make an appointment?

I think that's it for now, I'm sure I'll have more. Any information that you can give me will be helpful.

Thank you all in advance,
Alz  :-*

You can apply for your visa as soon as you have your marriage certificate.  You'll make an appointment (online) with the LA consulate and can apply in person.  Assuming all is in order, you'll have your visa in a matter of hours.

There's no "magic number" for the financial stuff.  As long as you can show that you will be able to support yourselves with no help from the state and that you'll have a reasonable place to live, you'll be fine.  If your fiance doesn't make a lot of money you can always have someone act as a cosponsor for your application.

There are a few people including myself that have asked this question my fiancee and I get married in May 06 we are going back to Boston April06, everyone says it depends on your individual circumstances, you can not as the American part of the couple have recourse to public funds your partner soon to be husband can in his own right if he is entitled to them of course tax credits in my case, I have been told it depends where you will be moving to ie London is more expensive so the cost of living is higher even for a couple, but further up ie Birmingham, coventry is cheaper and it gets cheaper as you go up the country.

So save as much as you can and try not to let your bank accounts go over drawn, we have put off buying anything to keep our accounts positive LOL and keep all your bank records make sure you have mortgage letter off the bank or rent book and letter off the landlord giving you permission to live in the property, lots of pics and anything that shows you are a couple, a sponsorship letter from your husband and a supporting letter stating he knows and supports you in your application to live in the UK with him, you need to do a letter also if you have lived at the same address at all anything to show you have lived together letters off friends family stating you are a couple and how happy you both are, plane tickets to show you have met each other divorce papers if either of you  have been divorced at all your pass port and if your husband can not send his then a notarized copy every page has to be done blank ones also.

Also anything that shows you have access to money IE car details if it is paid off I have put my van down and paper work, I have put my house details in also as I have a fair amount of equity in the property this may or may not help but as everyone says to much rather than not enough.

If you have birthdays or anything coming up ask people to give you money for your account to show savings that would include wedding gifts bit cheeky but at least it bumps your savings up and to be honest most electric stuff wont be much good over here anyway so if you have money as wedding presents at least you can purchase when you get back.

If you have a degree then put all that in and a cv also.

I hope this has helped abit
