Cast your Vote!
« on: January 22, 2004, 03:45:30 PM »
I'm sure elle has mentioned this somewhere, but just in case...

The presidential election is this November.  Make sure your voice is heard!  Just because we live on the other side of the pond now, doesn't make us any less American, or any less a part of the voting process.

I'm working on getting registered to vote, and thought some might appreciate these links.

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/acs/scs/voting.htm
Is the American Embassy's page for Absentee Voting for US Citizens.

http://www.democratsabroad.org/
The website for Democrats Abroad

and

http://www.republicansabroad.org/
Is the website for Republicans Abroad.

Other overseas citizens may obtain supplies of the FPCA by contacting the FVAP directly at vote@fvap.ncr.gov

(Lifted right off the embassy page lol)

Now...what do you think the chances are of having a calm discussion about the merits of the various candidates?  Or is that just a one-way ticket to Pettifoggville?   ::)

I've ordered my absentee ballot card and should be getting it in the post next week.  Of course this means I'm now actually going to have to pay attention to the candidates... ::)

Did you order your absentee ballot online, peedal? I've been looking for an online way to order mine since our printer isn't up and running yet !I've only found a downloadable (acrobat) version thus far!

Luckily I've got a couple of VERY active aunts in the states, so they're keeping me updated on the caucus etc...(not that it makes much sense to me lol [smiley=dizzy2.gif] but hey, I'm trying right?

It looks like I'll be voting Democratic this year :O  That'll be different...

Ok- just me again hehe

There is a great website called

"The Political Compass"

http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/politicalcompass/index.html

... where you can take an anonymous test to see where you fall on the political scale!  The links are very interesting as well - US Primaries
2004 shows where all the candidates fall in the political spectrum, and Iconochasms is a "Who Said it?" of important political figures (both historical and contemporary)- and some of the results may suprise you! Shocked the heck out of me!  Very interesting, whatever your reason for visiting!

www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_web/acs/scs/request_vote.htm

You fill out this and they'll post you the card.  I did it because I need the time to find my Voters Registration Card - I know it's SOMEWHERE...!  ;D

Well, they'd sent me a new one to my mother's address and she sent it on to me.  It's got my voters registration number on it, which isn't exactly *necessary* - but since I'm registered to vote in my maiden name and am using this opportunity to change it to my married name, I thought it might help them put 2 and 2 together, you know, and NOT come up with 5.  Keep in mind I vote in Florida... :-X

Hey, you florida voter - better bloody well vote (that is, if you agree with me politically...of course....)

I'm registered in DC.  It was 80% for Gore last time.  Either way, my vote won't matter.  I really dislike the electoral college sometimes, it really does discourage voting for a lot of people.

(for the record, I was part of that 80%)

Just wanted to post another great site regarding the US 2004 Presidential Election!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/americas/04/us_election/candidates_issues/html/default.stm

It's a BBCi website that lists all the candidates and what their position is- plus and option to check candidates by issue.

Hope it's helpful!

Thanks Jen!

Got my postcard from the Embassy on Monday and filled it out and sent it off in the post on Tuesday.  They also sent me a Federal Ballot in case I don't get one in time from Florida in response to my postcard.
