Surely a legal document such as a marriage certificate linking the 2 names would work if you're trying to open an account? I use my passport/ marriage cert combo all the time, although mine is the other way around (passport in maiden name).
Yeah see I think they would be ok with passport in maiden name because it appears like well, you just got married and haven't changed your name yet, so fine here's your account in new name.
But if you wanted to do it the other way (open account in maiden name but passport is in married) - I'm guessing they would say, no your old name is maiden and new is married, so your account should be in married.
But I no longer have any ID with maiden name on it! So I think I'm in trouble.
I just signed up to take an exam in Sept. and wanted to do it in maiden name (all my diplomas and certificates are in maiden - it is my professional name, basically). I had to do it in married name because I don't have any ID in maiden name and they must be able to verify your identity when you come to take the exam. That's when I realized I don't have any more ID in maiden name anymore!! Boo hoo - maiden me no longer exists, it seems. :\\\'(
