« on: March 20, 2006, 01:40:04 PM »
I passed on the third time, 2 minor faults and I have a british license til I'm 80  ;D

I still despise the system to get my license, but at least i have it now!

Well done!!

Now you can actually 'learn how to drive' !

I had a fantastic instructor and remember him telling me a few times, 'its actually after you pass your test that you actually learn how to drive' - It's one of those things that's stuck in my mind over the years!

Well done once again !

I was soooo nervous for my first and did well despite 1major fault (hitting the curb)

then, the second one I wanted so badly to get it right that I had another serious fault (not turning right on red when I should have b/c i was passed the white line)

so, come the 3rd test, I was like, here we go again, I failed, right? Luckily, I passed, so as my sister-in-law said, it's just luck!

If i had to do it a 4th or 5th time, I'd be down, but I'd still try and try again.

Good luck!!!

congrats! yay, you must be thrilled!!

So is hitting a curb once during the test fail you?

I got behind the wheel for the first time this weekend. I was up in Scotland and my friend let me drive around in a secluded lot. I was a pro in the parking lot... and then decided to brave it and try the road next to the lot. That's when the curb jumped out at me when i moved so an oncoming car could pass. I scratched his front rim  :-\\\\ He was totally cool though. I guess it is just one of those things you have to jump in and do... and have very good insurance.  ;)

haha...the examiner was cool, the first time, I thought I had failed, but he let that one go. It was the second curb at the test center upon return and at the very END of the test that failed me.

Yes - any curb hit should be an automatic failrure. It's getting used to the car and the roads that is key. You will be fine!

so, I assume hitting side mirrors is a bad thing too  ;) It's the whole right side driver's seat/driving on the left thing.

I plan to take lessons mid year or so. No real need for me to drive now. Can't be much worse than driving in SF and I can totally do that.  ;D

Oh the memories!!

JKLM 725 - wayyy back in the day 96 i think it was, my then girlfriend really reallllly wanted to drive my car and i was slightly hesitant. However by her 'making' me allow her to drive (ahem cough cough!) I let her in the drivers seat and were in a quite parking area. got the car moving and all was ok..  told her to steer the other way , she got confused! forgot to steer, screamed a little and pressed the accelerator.. a big DING as the wheel hit the kerb and car stopped.

Her hands over her mouth and looking at me to say 'sorry'..

I had literally 3 days before put a brand new set of Alloy wheels that had taken me a good six months to save up for. The were one set of only 3 in the whole of the UK at that time!

The wheel was dented and later found out it couldn't be repaired..

I was 'miffed' but these things happen, I didn't 'mind' as such, and she gave me half the dosh to a new single wheel and only after she really insisted as I didn't want to take her money!

I still see her around from time to time - we split on good terms, and I've 'reminded' her a few times of it ! we laugh about it !

And yes, I'm not 'totally' sexist when it comes to girls and cars - some excellent girlies I know can really drive fantastically!  I always ask them if they've ever dinged their boyfriends cars/wheels though!

San Francisco driving isn't too bad at all, I got around quite easily in Feb 05..  some of those dam hills are a pain though!

Cheers! Dennis! West London & Slough UK!
