Strange question..transporting plants internationally

I have a strange question..I intend to have heather plants as table decorations, probably centerpieces depending how big the plants are. Anyway I would like each group of guests to take one home with them to plant in their garden. But my parents may come (my mom is still working on my dad about this  ) and I am wondering will they be allowed to bring one or two of the plants home to the US?

I know they ask about plants and seeds...in fact I am one of the apparently very few who actually bothered to claim something food related, and they searched ALL my bags in front of everyone upon returning to the US (it wasnt even stuff worth claiming really hehe)..I really dont want to put my parents through that..but the plant is a sentimental thing ya know? 

Maybe I'd be better off ordering a couple of heather plants from a local nursery and having them delivered to my parents....

I'm pretty sure when they say no plants, they mean no plants. And I doubt customs people are going to be very sentimental.

I think ordering one and having it delivered would be a great idea!

So they actually say no plants? I have never had a plant so I didnt bother checking

Ok then they will be getting theirs delivered from a local nursery...its the thought that counts right?

Its unfortunate they cant take them home with them but not a major inconvenience..they will get to take a trip like they never have before and will have all those memories.

one way to get around this would be to press some blooms in a book.

I used to check "food" and they'd ask what type of food.  I'd reply "chocolate - it's listed on the back" and never had bags looked at. 

Might be possible for them to take dried sprigs home with them, think it's just live plants with roots that are the issue.  I think I took some semi-dried roses back with me on one trip.
