natwest overdraft- MORE identify docunments needed?!?!?
« on: March 17, 2006, 08:24:54 AM »
have had a checking & savings account with natwest since i moved her (august 2003).  i went online two weeks ago to add an overdraft to my account, as well as the joint account i have with my partner.  i got the forms last week, signed them and sent them in.  this morning i recieved a letter stating that i must go down to my local natwest bank and show them a copy of my most recent passport.  as long as they don't insist i go to my local natwest and let me go to another one (nearer to my work), this is doable.  my passport is currently in the ethers getting a chinese visa attached to it.  why do they need this?  they saw my passport & council tax bill 2 1/2 years ago.  wasn't that enough?  do all banks do this?
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

do all banks do this?

Barclays doesn't -- I applied for my overdraft online and it was approved with no additional paperwork or id.  Different banks do things differently, though -- could be NatWest needs to see more id for applications that originate online.

When we got setup on our overdraft at NatWest International (Off Shore), we had to provide credit references from the states first. Once received, we were granted £1000.00 and hope to never use it.

Regarding your Passport: I was told when we setup our overdraft that they wanted to know exactly when our UK Visa expired so they could end our line of credit 6 months prior to that date.
Why? If we did owe money, it gives us six months to pay it back before leaving the UK.
They stated if we become a resident or get another UK Visa, they would either extend or terminate the expiration date completely.

Best of Luck :)

Yes Barclays doesn't - I just applied online and got it that instant.
