the ice has worked when I remember to do it..
and  has anyone else noticed?  or maybe it's just me.. if i am completely barefoot or have  extremely flat shoes on  my back hurts  a lot!!

the ice does help especially if you do it regularly.

something else my chiro said to me was I have semi flat feet... I have never noticed and no one has ever told me (can this change as you get older?) not even the previous chiro in the states. He said go to Boots and pick up some general orthotics... wean yourself on them because you will notice the difference it makes. Just him pressing on my arch while standing upright made a difference to my posture.

on the subject of feet... what is the obsession with chiropody in this country? I swear... I see chiropodiatrists' offices everywhere!!

Yep... arches can fall as you get older, especially if you've worn high heels a lot in your youth (one upside to being tall, my feet are in pretty good shape!).
My mom is/was a fashion maven, and not only had to have ankle surgery, but now has to wear orthodics WITH arch supports pretty much always... though she'll still suffer the night out at the theatre in heels  ::)

well, so much for fashion!  ;) I'm tall, I just like to be taller... but in this country that's not too hard to do.  :P

Just be smart about it... and aware.

BTW, the insurance... since my chiro charges £30 a pop - not unreasonable for a chiro, but out of my budget for 3x per week... but doing the math, even at one visit per week, x 52 weeks, - whatever reimbursement insurance gives (I estimated the most, which would be £200), it ended up costing MORE WITH the insurance.

A no-win no-win situation.  But good to be edumacated about it!  There's lots of good health insurance plans out there, not just BUPA!

I did a little math in the head and figured the same.

Yes you're feet and posture have LOT to do with it. My mom had major pain and tingling all over and started going numb from the waist down. She has a neuropathy. Her foot doctor figured it out and now has very expensive molded arch supports. She's going to have to wear sneakers to my wedding in her mother of the bride outfit b/c of this condition (at least she can walk!).

So, something to heed if you are uncomfortable barefoot, something is wrong.

That's why my chiropractor recommended pilates -- it improves posture. She also recommended the Alexander Technique, but there's nowhere around me that has classes in it.
